The Sacramento/Aerojet event only needs volunteers for a few specific activities… keep reading.
However, each year we try to expand the number of activities outside the main event, which obviously is the fishing. There are grassy areas surrounding the fishing ponds where we offer activities like finger painting, face painting, fishing for prizes, karaoke, demonstrations, etc.
If there is an organization or a group that would like to get involved, there is always the possibility of starting a new activity, demonstration or exhibit; one that could by utilized by not only the physically challenged children, but also their able-bodied siblings.
For example, wildlife is always a hit with kids. A small petting zoo (such as a 4-H or zoo outreach program) would fit nicely...or if you have a talent for magic, juggling, singing (wandering crooners would be a good addition), all could enhance the day. And if appropriate, all material and supplies can be purchased for you by Kids Catch A Smile Day.
The point is, we are always trying to expand the activities, to improve upon the event, and to make it as pleasurable and fulfilling an experience as possible for the physically challenged children and their families.
And items to be stuffed into the duffel bags that are given to the physically challenged as they leave, are also very much appreciated. Please keep in mind, however, if you have something to offer, we need 60 of each to accommodate the physically challenged children who may attend the event.
Of course, cash donations are always accepted. We are a 501c(3) organization, so donations are tax-deductible.
To either donate, start an activity, or to lend your talent, email Gary Voet or call him at (916) 771-0259.
